SHADES is a traveling event with a mission to strengthen the voices, visibility, music and artistic expression within multicultural and LGBTQIA+ communities. In other words SHADES merges a variety of popular public spaces in multiple cities with innovative themes for dance parties, outdoor meetups and small business networking functions. To maximize our mission, we fold in nonprofit fundraising mixers to showcase DJ talent, and a rotating humanitarian based nonprofit beneficiary. SHADES also produces merchandise (e.g. fashion line, jewelry and other accessories), which a portion of those proceeds are also donated to a charitable cause.
We pride ourselves and our collaborators coming together to raise money for charity (aka partying for a cause)! Our partners include organizations such as The Community Warehouse, PFLAG: Portland Black Chapter, Portland Black Pride, Cascade AIDS Project, AIDS Walk Portland, the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC) and the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC). We are so inspired by our partnerships as well as our fierce attendees who continue to support community building, education and social justice for human rights. SHADES was launched February, 5th 2015.
